Seminars

David Takle is available to lead seminars on the following topics. The length of the seminar can be varied to meet the needs of your particular organization, anywhere from a few hours to an entire weekend. Please use our contact page to start a dialogue about the needs of your group.

Christian Formation: Transformation by Design

For most people, our traditional models of discipleship are fairly limited in their effectiveness, because the training is primarily based on the premise that education, motivation and willpower are sufficient to produce change. But genuine transformation can only come from engaging with the Holy Spirit in ways that are life-giving. Using Dallas Willard's model of Vision, Intention, and Means (VIM), David presents an approach to the Christian Life that brings about real change by developing a closer relationship to God. Items covered include:

* What is God's part and what is our part in Christian growth
* Specific ways of engaging with the Spirit that results in spiritual growth and character transformation
* Ways that well-meaning churches can actually put the Christian life out of reach
* How to make your "quiet time" come alive

Whispers Of My Abba: Developing a Conversational Prayer Life

The only way we can know how to live the Christian life is to follow the Spirit. But most Christians find it hard to figure out what the Spirit wants them to know. Many of us have been taught that God stopped talking after the Bible was written down. And so our prayer life is limited to a one-way conversation -- saying things to God and then going about our lives, waiting to see if He will respond in some way. But the Bible makes it very clear that God intends to communicate with His children and teach them how to live. We have all been given the Holy Spirit as a personal Mentor. The question is how to engage with Him in ways that reveal to us what He wants us to know.

So how does God's voice come to us? How do we separate out His voice from all the other "voices" in our heads? How do we keep from going overboard on this and getting into trouble? This seminar seeks to examine these questions, as well as provide opportunity to listen for God and discuss our experiences with each other.

The Truth About the Lies We Believe

One of the least understood aspects of Christian growth is the way in which our deep inner beliefs actually drive our lives. Very often we hear about what we ought to do and attitudes we ought to have, and how we must battle our inner urges to do otherwise. But rarely do we hear how to access and change the part of us that provides the energy for those "inner urges." In fact many of us have been taught that we are more or less stuck with them. Which makes transformation almost impossible.

The truth is that we can be set free from the things that drive us contrary to God. What we fail to realize is that we have all been malformed by a lifetime of experience through which we have internalized distored perceptions of who we are, who God is, and how life works.

Christian Community: Why Churches Need to Know About the Life Model

At its core, the Life Model is a blueprint for a well-tuned Christian Community. Many of us would like a strong Christian Community, but we do not really know how to create one. This presentation will cover:

* Key factors of Christian living
* What makes relationships strong
* How God designed people to grow up
* The true nature of interdependence
* What is our part and what is God's part in growing up
* How the Life Model relates to Scripture
